What is GBIF?

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international organisation that aims at making the world's scientific biodiversity data freely and universally available through Internet for benefits to science, society and a sustainable future.

Visit the GBIF Website to get more information of how GBIF works, or GBIF Data Portal to access the data.

Currently (January 2013), there are 462 data providers in the GBIF network in about 40 countries. They serve 383 million records of biodiversity data which have been combined from 9 960 databases or datasets.
