What is GBIF?

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international organisation that aims at making the world's scientific biodiversity data freely and universally available through Internet for benefits to science, society and a sustainable future.

Visit the GBIF Website to get more information of how GBIF works, or GBIF Data Portal to access the data.

Currently (end of 2011), there are 368 data providers in the GBIF network in about 40 countries. They serve 317 million records of biodiversity data which have been combined from 8 600 databases or datasets.
