Our present ICT Coordinator is leaving us in order to pursue new challenges. Therefore Digitarium is searching for a Senior Software Engineer for further development of the digitisation process and ICT systems. Deadline for applications is 2012-02-28.
The first certified experts of digitisation of natural history collection specimens completed their training at Digitarium on 2012-01-31. During the nine-month training programme they became familiar with imaging botanical and entomological samples, data interpretation and data entry, georeferencing, and data management.
Syksyn koulutusohjelmassa oli vuorossa oma projekti. Monista vaihtoehdoista käteen osui ”Kahden eliön muodostaman yhteisnäytteen digitointi käyttäen DarwinCorea”. Suomeksi sanottuna äkämänäytteiden kuvaus ja tietojen tallennus. Tiedot äkämistä ennen projektia olivat varsin niukat, mutta projektin aikana opimme jotain uutta.
Tero Mononen, M.Sc. started as Analyst Programmer at Digitarium on 2012-01-01. His job is to investigate the possibilities for automatic recognition of labels in natural history collection specimens.
